Darryl Stewart was an Australian singer from Sydney.

Stewart Charted in the mid fifties with "A Man Called Peter" which was also featured in the film of the same name. Stewart had a very clear voice and was popular during the fifties and in the sixties.

He apparently spent some time in England appearing on several television shows and also working with Winifred Atwell's BBC TV show.

Stewart was known for singing Irish songs with organ accompaniment. The distinctive and dominant organ sound comes from none other than Australia's King of the Theatre Organ, Wilbur Kentwell.

The song "A Man Called Peter" became one of Australia's biggest hits of 1955.

The song was released in Australia on one of Festival Records earliest 45s, cat # SP45-684.
The flipside was "My Cathedral". The song reached # 2 in Sydney in the winter of 1955, a position it held for 3 weeks. It never made #1 as Festival released the 45 of "Rock Around The Clock" by Bill Haley & His Comets.

Also on some of his recordings backing was provided by Australia's foremost pre-rock & roll band leader, Les Welch.

Darryl Stewart's good looks once led to British sex bomb, Diana Dors, having an affair with him.
